Loads & trailers

Think about securing loads, permitted masses and your licence.

Check both your licence and technical towing limits

Secure luggage so it cannot shift or fly forward. Keep heavy items low and visibility, lights and number plates unobstructed. Check the car’s permitted payload and roof load.

For licence B, a trailer’s maximum authorised mass may be up to 750 kg. For a heavier trailer, the sum of car and trailer maximum authorised masses must not exceed 3,500 kg. The car itself must qualify for licence B. This is not based merely on what the combination actually weighs today.

A suitable licence alone is not enough: observe technical towing, nose-weight and loading limits. Check coupling, required safety connection, tyres and lights according to the manual. Allow more room in turns and anticipate the longer combination.
