Environment & efficient driving
Plan your trip and drive smoothly. Efficiency must never compromise safety.

Look ahead and leave space. Ease off early when you need to slow down. In a manual car, stay in a suitable gear; do not coast in neutral to save fuel.
A steady, appropriate speed avoids unnecessary acceleration and braking. Follow the car’s gear recommendations without making the engine labour. Use cruise control only when traffic and road conditions allow.
Check tyre pressure against the vehicle handbook, including for extra load. Remove an unused roof box and unnecessary luggage. A roof box increases air resistance; this does not mean every car’s braking distance automatically rises by a fixed percentage.
Clear ice before setting off and maintain visibility. Do not leave the engine idling for a long warm-up. Use ventilation or air conditioning when needed to clear misted windows. Consider cycling or public transport for a suitable short trip.
