Fitness to drive & passengers

Concentration, sobriety and proper protection matter as much as knowing the rules.

Do not hold a mobile electronic device while driving. Set navigation before departure. Hands-free use is not automatically safe: a conversation can distract you. Stop somewhere safe when something needs your full attention.

Novice drivers have a lower blood-alcohol limit of 0.2 per mille; for other drivers it is 0.5 per mille. The safest choice is no alcohol when driving. Drugs and some medicines impair driving. Check the leaflet and advice from your pharmacist or doctor. Coffee does not make you sober faster.

Use the available seat belts. Children under 1.35 metres generally need an approved, suitable child restraint; limited legal exceptions exist. Do not place a rear-facing child seat in front of an active airbag. Adjust the head restraint, seat and mirrors before departure.
