Signs & road markings
Read both the meaning and the situation. A supplementary panel can specify when or to whom a sign applies.
A circular red-bordered sign often indicates a restriction. A blue circular sign often gives a mandatory instruction. A red-bordered triangle warns of danger. Learn each specific meaning: shape alone is not enough. B1 is the yellow diamond for a priority road; B6 is the inverted give-way triangle; B7 is the octagonal stop sign.
In principle, you must not cross a solid line. With a combined solid and broken line, follow the line nearest your side. A red cross above a lane closes that lane. A green arrow means the lane is open, provided you can use it safely and comply with other rules.
A solid yellow line prohibits stopping there. A broken yellow line prohibits parking. Shark teeth indicate a duty to give way. Follow authorised traffic controllers’ directions, even when they differ from lights or signs.
