Speed & following distance
The speed limit is an upper limit. A safe speed can be much lower.
For a car without a trailer, the general built-up-area limit is 50 km/h unless signs say otherwise. Outside built-up areas, ordinary roads have a general limit of 80 km/h and expressways 100 km/h. A woonerf has a 15 km/h limit. A 30 zone stays at 30 km/h until the zone ends.
On almost all motorways, 100 km/h applies between 06:00 and 19:00. There are exceptions: always read signs, time panels and electronic signs. A lower electronic speed limit takes precedence over a higher fixed sign. Do not assume every motorway allows 130 after 19:00.
You must be able to stop within the visible, clear distance ahead. Keep enough following distance. Two seconds is a practical guide in good conditions, not a guarantee or a universal legal minimum. Increase the gap in rain, fog, slippery conditions or with a heavy load.
